Charges Against John Gotti’s Grandson
The grandson of the infamous mob boss John Gotti is facing assault charges after allegedly attacking his girlfriend. This incident comes just days before he was set to begin a prison sentence for misappropriating COVID-19 relief funds.
Carmine Gotti Agnello, 39, reportedly confronted his girlfriend around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday at his Long Island home, accusing her of infidelity. The altercation escalated, leading the woman to flee the property.
According to a complaint, Agnello followed her outside, where he “slapped the victim on the left cheek, struck her on the left side of the face with a closed fist, and placed both hands around her neck.” Additionally, he allegedly kicked her and damaged her $2,000 cellphone.
Agnello has been charged with third-degree assault, second-degree criminal mischief, and obstruction of breathing. He has been released without bail and is scheduled to appear in Nassau County Court.
This incident occurs as Agnello was preparing to report to prison on June 12 for a 15-month sentence related to a scheme in which he stole $1.1 million from the COVID-19 relief fund. Prosecutors claim he used the funds for investments in virtual currencies.
Interestingly, despite his upcoming prison time, Agnello expressed a desire to donate a kidney to his mother, Victoria Gotti, John Gotti’s daughter, and sought to postpone his prison report date.
John Gotti, who was the head of New York’s Gambino crime family, was sentenced to life in prison in 1992 for a range of serious offenses including extortion and murder. He passed away in 2002 while serving his sentence, attributed to throat cancer.
