Gov. Newsom Says He Outperformed Trump on Immigration Policy

Trump Proposes Immigration Adjustments for Various Industries

President Donald Trump has suggested easing immigration regulations for employers in the hotel, retail, and agricultural sectors.

In response, Gavin Newsom remarked on X, calling it a “major win” and emphasized the importance of public support in driving this change. He urged people to keep the momentum going peacefully.

Over the years, Trump has often shifted between the demands of his pro-American base and the interests of his business supporters.

On Thursday evening, he addressed the matter directly, discussing the implications for 21 million immigrants.

Newsom continued to criticize Trump, highlighting the political implications of these decisions.

Trump’s inconsistent stances appear to be a strategy to gain support from both sides of his party, especially with the midterm elections approaching in 2026.

Meanwhile, Democrats are hoping for a significant voter turnout against Trump in the upcoming elections. To counter this, Trump has reportedly taken steps to mobilize voters who usually have lower engagement rates.

Despite the challenges, the economic realities may not favor a return to traditional wage levels, as many industries have relied heavily on low-wage labor. For instance, labor costs constitute a significant portion of hotel operational expenses, fostering a strong demand for foreign-born managers.

Trump clarified his position in a press conference, where he faced backlash from his pro-American supporters.

TV host Laura Ingraham cautioned that this could lead to a slippery slope, arguing that industries will likely claim labor shortages to justify similar treatments. Ingraham pointed to the historical context where many workers had been in the food and hospitality sectors.

Jessica Vaughn from the Center for Immigration Research countered, suggesting that those industries should focus on providing better pay and working conditions to draw American talent back into the workforce.

Since 2010, many American men have found themselves pushed out of jobs due to cost-cutting measures, which has led to various social issues, including increased welfare reliance and heightened death rates from addiction.

In a recent statement, Vice President JD Vance criticized the obsession with cheap labor, linking it to a lack of innovation within American companies.

Trump’s immigration reform efforts since January reportedly helped remove about 1 million illegal immigrants from the workforce. This shift has contributed to job opportunities for 1.2 million Americans and has aided in wage increases amid ongoing economic struggles.

Later that evening, Trump reiterated his stance on Truthsocial, declaring the urgency of addressing the presence of 21 million illegal immigrants.

He criticized the Biden administration and state governance, claiming that illegal immigration has severely impacted schools, hospitals, and communities at a considerable financial cost. Trump expressed a strong commitment to reversing this trend, emphasizing the role of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in this mission.

He pointed out that California’s Democratic leadership has used the influx of immigrants to affect wage levels and real estate prices, resulting in considerable economic disparity and educational challenges in the state.
