State Department to Monitor Foreigners Praising Violence After Shooting

The State Department is set to keep an eye on foreigners who make statements praising violence in the wake of the recent assassination of a significant political figure, Charlie Kirk. Deputy Chief Chris Landau expressed this position on social media, stating that individuals who promote violence are not welcome in the United States.

Landau mentioned his frustration over the positive commentary regarding violent acts circulating on social media. He has asked consular staff to take necessary action against those foreigners on visas who engage in such rhetoric.

This isn’t the first instance of the State Department intensifying monitoring efforts. Back in June, officials announced that they would be scrutinizing social media accounts of visa applicants, advocating for them to set their profiles to public.

On September 10, 2025, Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot while speaking during an event at Utah Valley University. This event, which was part of his “American Comeback Tour,” drew a crowd of around 3,000 people. Kirk was struck in the neck during a discussion about a recent mass shooting involving a transgender individual.

The weapon believed to have been used was a powerful bolt-action rifle found nearby, with officials suspecting the shot was fired from a rooftop roughly 200 yards away. The FBI has released images of the suspected shooter and is asking for public assistance in identifying them.

In a recent report, it was noted that more than 6,000 student visas have been revoked by the State Department due to violations, including serious offenses like assault and robbery. It appears the focus on monitoring will continue as authorities seek to protect Americans from further incidents.
