Governor Abbott's Labeling of CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood as Terrorist Groups Is a Way to 'Address Current Issues'

Texas Governor’s Designation Sparks Controversy

During a recent television appearance, retired Lt. Col. Allen West commented on Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s move to label the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist organizations. He suggested that this decision might help address ongoing issues, referring to it as a way “to avoid what is happening” in the region.

Host Mike Slater noted that Abbott’s declaration highlighted the organizations’ apparent objectives of “forcibly imposing Islamic law and establishing Islamic domination of the world.”

West explained, “I truly believe this is a way to avoid what is happening in Epic City, now The Meadow, and to stop CAIR from coming here to Texas and representing some of these interests.” His comments were in response to a proposed name change for a local Islamic community.

He continued, stressing the importance of maintaining control over such organizations: “We can’t allow them to operate freely… We don’t want to see Texas—and America—turn into areas with no-go zones, parallel legal systems, similar to situations in England and France.” West indicated that some of these issues were beginning to take shape in Texas.

West referred to the governor’s subtle hints in this declaration. Slater posed a hypothetical question: “If CAIR is a terrorist organization, could you hire a lawyer for CAIR?” to which West replied, “No, no, we shouldn’t have something like that.” He expressed concern about the implications of allowing extended freedoms for such organizations.

When discussing how this could be happening across Texas, West noted that there are signs people are becoming complacent. “I think the United States is kind of falling asleep at the wheel in some areas—Texas included,” he stated. He pointed out that major Texas cities like Austin and Dallas are becoming focal points of this growing concern.

West also highlighted Texas’s unique historical status, saying, “This is the only state that has its own declaration of independence, the only state that was its own country before becoming a state.” He implied that there’s something significant about the challenges facing Texas.
