Massachusetts Politicians Booed at Red Sox Game
At the Red Sox home opener on Friday, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu faced a chorus of boos from the crowd. This event took place at Fenway Park before the game against the San Diego Padres, attended by over 36,000 fans.
The audience’s reaction was quite loud and didn’t go unnoticed, quickly spreading across social media and becoming a talking point for Republican gubernatorial candidates in Massachusetts. Brian Shortsleeve, one of the nominees, shared his thoughts on X-Video, stating, “Hey everyone, here we are from Fenway Park. Just a quick update. It’s been a great afternoon. The Red Sox are leading by one. Maura Healy and Michelle Wu get booed.” Another candidate humorously remarked that the in-person experience was even more intense.
Mike Minogue, another candidate, posted a video of the incident, questioning, “It looks like the fans want someone else to be at bat.” Meanwhile, Mike Keneally expressed his solidarity with Red Sox fans by saying, “Hey, I love Red Sox Nation!”
Adding to the political drama, Healey had recently made headlines for urging two airlines to cease flights for ICE, aiming to speed up the removal of undocumented immigrants. This comes amid scrutiny of her administration, especially after an aide was arrested on drug trafficking charges last October.
Wu, notably, has faced ongoing criticism for her stances on immigration enforcement, having previously labeled federal operations in the city as “unconstitutional” and calling for transparency with surveillance footage from ICE activities.
