Governor Moore expresses he is considering redistricting in Maryland: ‘Everything is possible’

Gov. Moore says he is looking into redistricting Maryland: ‘All options are on the table’

Governor Wes Moore of Maryland mentioned in a Sunday interview that he is seriously looking into options for rezoning in response to growing partisan activities nationwide.

In a conversation with CBS News during “Face the Nation,” Moore emphasized, “When you say all options are on the table, all options are on the table.”

When moderator Margaret Brennan asked if he was actively seeking rezoning, Moore replied, “Yes, I think I have to.”

He criticized former President Trump, particularly regarding Trump’s assertion that Texas Republicans are set to revise their Congressional boundaries, potentially providing the GOP with five additional opportunities in the upcoming elections.

Moore drew parallels between Trump’s actions and the notorious request Trump made to Georgia officials after losing the 2020 election, urging them to “find” enough votes to reverse his defeat in the state.

“The fact that a U.S. president, much like what he did in Georgia, is now contacting specific voter groups and asking for more support—it’s just a continuation of the same behavior,” he remarked.

As Texas prepares to greenlight a newly drawn congressional map, Republicans are also advancing similar plans in states like Florida, Indiana, and Missouri, indicating a new chapter in the ongoing battle.

Meanwhile, Democrats in California are also engaging in comparable efforts, showcasing the expanding nature of partisan initiatives across the country.

Moore, viewed as a rising star within the Democratic Party, expressed his dedication to ensuring fair representation, emphasizing the importance of creating districts where voters truly have the power to choose their elected officials rather than the other way around.

“We need to have a fair map,” he asserted. “It’s essential that if the president is trying to manipulate elections because his policies aren’t winning at the polls, we must keep all options available to genuinely represent our voters’ voices.”
