Tragic Shooting Incident in Minnesota
Reports indicate that a suspect, identified as Melissa Hortman’s husband, was already appointed to a state committee by Governor Tim Waltz in 2019. The shooter has been named as Vance Luther Bolter.
Bolter’s appointment to the Workforce Development Committee came in 2019, following Mark Dayton’s earlier appointment to the Workforce Development Council in 2016.
A recent report from New York Post notes that Bolter had a “king” flyer in his vehicle, which he left at Hoffman’s residence.
It is alleged that Vance Luther Bolter impersonated a police officer before he shot Sen. John Hoffman and his wife at their home early Saturday morning.
According to Daily Mail, connections between Vance and Bolter have been suggested.
During a press conference, Governor Waltz expressed his sorrow, stating:
“Today, we face an indescribable tragedy in Minnesota. My dear friend Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were shot this morning, and it appears to have been a politically motivated attack. Our state has lost a tremendous leader, and I have lost a cherished friend. Speaker Hortman dedicated herself to serving Minnesotans with grace, compassion, and humor. She was a formidable public servant and a giant in our community. We will miss her greatly.”
A manhunt is currently underway, with authorities warning that the suspect is armed and dangerous.
Star Tribune reports that in light of the targeted shootings involving state lawmakers, police are advising the public to avoid planned protests across Minnesota.
