Governor Who Proposed That JD Vance’s Family Member Should Be Assaulted is Said to Be Planning a 2028 Campaign

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, a Democrat who has previously made controversial statements, is reportedly eyeing a potential presidential run in 2028, according to a recent Politico report.

Beshear has been engaging with major donors, participating in national events, and appearing on various podcasts as he explores the viability of a presidential campaign. His provocative comments, particularly those made on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” in August 2024, have garnered significant attention. In those remarks, he suggested that Vice President J.D. Vance would need to endure familial trauma to understand the complexities of abortion.

“JD Vance refers to pregnancy resulting from rape as merely ‘inconvenient.’ Traffic is inconvenient. But being violated and harmed? That brings up deeper issues of human decency,” he had stated, reflecting on Vance’s views on the issue.

Vance, in response, called Beshear a “Nice Person” but criticized him for framing himself and former President Donald Trump as victims in the discussion.

Despite Beshear’s controversial remarks, some within the Democratic Party believe his blend of faith and political experience could position him as a strong contender for the 2028 election. Beshear’s office has not commented publicly on the matter.

Some observers describe Beshear as an intriguing dark horse candidate, noting he offers a contrasting style to Trump. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healy has commended him for his efforts to work across party lines and emphasizes that effective governance is ultimately about delivering results.

Beshear has brought on former communications staff from Kamala Harris’s 2024 campaign amid ongoing scrutiny of his communication strategy. Although he was once speculated to be a candidate for Harris’s running mate, that prospect has shifted.

He has also met with donors from the Future Forward PAC, a significant Democratic political action committee, and recently launched “The Andy Beshear Podcast,” further solidifying his political presence.

However, some Democratic operatives express skepticism regarding the viability of Beshear’s bid, with concerns that he may not generate sufficient support. Still, he has garnered backing from notable allies like Randy Weingarten, the President of the American Federation of Teachers.

Recently, Beshear’s administration introduced progressive policies in Kentucky, including an executive order that bans “conversion therapy” for minors—but notably does not prohibit sex change procedures. His administration also faced controversy for releasing a substantial number of inmates during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a large percentage reoffending.

Other potential Democratic candidates for the 2028 election include notable figures like California Governor Gavin Newsom and Maryland Governor Wes Moore, amidst concerns over a general decline in voter sentiment toward the party.
