GovTrack suddenly removed a scorecard that ranked Vice President Kamala Harris as the most liberal senator in 2019, arguing that the data was suddenly “insufficient to paint a reliable portrait of members’ activities.”
Breitbart News on Monday featured GovTrac’s 2019 Scorecard, which ranked Harris the most liberal U.S. senator in 2019 based on “legislative action,” an analysis of bills she introduced or co-sponsored during her allotted term.
In the 2019 rankings, Harris, who was selected as the Democratic nominee by Democratic Party leaders (not Democratic voters), ranked lower than socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who was ranked 99th.

The page explains that the score “can be interpreted as a left-right measure of the differences in dominant ideology among lawmakers, although of course it only takes into account a small fraction of reality.”
Despite this explanation, GovTrack chose to remove the page entirely after news spread quickly that Harris had been ranked as the most liberal senator of the year.

GovTrack Founder Joshua Tauberer offered Explaining their decision to remove the page to The National Desk on Thursday, they explained that while the data reflected her activity during a particular congressional session, they suddenly decided it was “insufficient to paint a reliable portrait of lawmakers’ activities.” That came despite the fact that the original page included a sort of disclaimer explaining just that, saying its snapshot “only takes into account a small aspect of reality.”

“One of the foundational principles of GovTrack.us is to empower the American people to make data-driven decisions based on the best information we can provide them,” Tauberer said.
“The page you are referring to is based on a single calendar year. Several years ago we stopped producing new single calendar year ‘report cards,'” he argued.
This week is not the first time Breitbart News has covered Senator Harris’ GovTrack record; in an article published on August 11, 2020, Breitbart News highlighted how Senator Harris was ranked the 4th most liberal U.S. Senator and 1st most liberal Senator in 2018.

Harris has faced criticism in the past from mainstream media for her 2019 ratings.

Consistent with this is the fact that, deleted or not, Harris was one of the first senators to voice her support for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) Green New Deal.

At the time, Breitbart News explained:

Harris has also openly supported socialism, releasing a video just days before the 2020 election explaining the difference between “equality” and “fairness.”
