Kansas City Chiefs heiress Gracie Hunt is one step closer to getting married: her bachelorette weekend is underway, complete with themed outfits and a bride-to-be bikini look inspired by the “coastal cowgirl” style.
The timing is a little surprising. I wondered why the celebration wasn’t held during the team’s October bye week, but I don’t know the reason. The Chiefs host the New York Jets on Sunday, though it’s not necessarily the kind of matchup that would keep the organization’s top figures occupied all week.
Football is likely to be part of Hunt’s wedding story regardless. She’s engaged to Derek Green, whose father, Trent Green, was a quarterback for Kansas City. Even after a weekend of celebrations, I wouldn’t rule out Hunt making it to Sunday’s game.
Saturday brought a wild day of college football. I stayed up to watch West Virginia try to upset No. 15 Texas Tech. The teams combined for a high-scoring first half, and the Red Raiders eventually escaped with a 53–48 win. I made it to the fourth quarter before falling asleep on the couch, but what I saw was terrific.
It capped a day that also featured a kick-six, a carousel huddle, and successful fake punt and fake field-goal attempts. No. 1 Miami’s loss on the road to No. 11 Notre Dame extended the season’s top-ranked-team curse. Four teams that held the No. 1 spot have now lost.
There was plenty more to watch. Anyone who enjoys seeing Lane Kiffin’s LSU team struggle probably had a good time as the Tigers were dominated at home. No. 7 Texas also held off No. 18 Missouri, keeping the Longhorns in the mix.
My favorite game, though, was in the Big Ten. It wasn’t Penn State’s win at Washington or Michigan’s rough outing. No. 23 Oregon handed No. 12 Ohio State its third loss, putting a serious dent in the Buckeyes’ national-title hopes. Oregon controlled the game and deserves credit for going on the road and ending Ohio State’s season ambitions. At No. 12, the Buckeyes may have been ranked too high anyway.
A couple of readers also sent in questions and comments. One was pleased to see Kate Upton receive praise, then asked about Tom Brady’s modeling work, his businesses, and whether he might run for president. Another reader was confused by conflicting online claims about Marie Dee’s marital status and dating history. I can’t clear up either question based on those messages, but they certainly made for an unusual inbox.
That’s it for this week. There’s another international game this morning, and I keep thinking I should stop watching them. But there are only so many football games in a season, and I’ll probably keep tuning in while I can.
My Panthers are at home against the Denver Broncos this week. It’s time to find out whether they have what it takes to make a playoff run.
