Graham says he supports the US training forces in Ukraine

Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said Sunday he supports the U.S. training Ukrainian forces overseas.

“Yes, I support domestic training. We lost momentum with the delays and arms supplies because of House inaction. But the Biden administration, from the beginning, did not impose pre-invasion sanctions to deter Putin. They did not give weapons to Ukraine early on to deter Putin. And now that they have the weapons, we have a chance to reset this war,” Graham said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

He also said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants the United States to go after Russian assets around the world and hand them over to his country.

“What he wanted most was for us to go after Russian assets around the world, to take money from Russian state treasury and give it to Ukraine. There is $300 billion in Europe from Russia and state treasury that we need to seize and give to Ukraine,” he said.

Graham continued to emphasize his support for Ukraine as the country continues to struggle with the war against Russia, which invaded the country more than two years ago.

“Either help Ukraine or don’t. Now is the time to give Ukraine F-16 fighter jets, fly planes and long-range artillery to attack targets inside Russia. Target Putin’s assets anywhere in the world. Go on the offensive. By the summer Ukraine will have a military boost,” he said.

President Biden met with President Zelensky last week in Normandy, France, where he and other world leaders were gathering to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings. President Biden apologized to President Zelensky for delays in U.S. funding for the war against Russia.

“I apologize for not knowing for weeks what was going to pass on the funding side, because we struggled to get a bill through that had the funding that we needed to pass. Some very conservative members of Congress were delaying it. But we finally got it through,” Biden said.
