Tragic Incident in Michigan Involving Grandfather and Nanny
An elderly man in Michigan, David Ong, 83, lost his life under horrific circumstances. He was allegedly killed by his family’s nanny, Samantha Booth, 35, who reportedly stabbed him with a screwdriver while he was checking on his 3-year-old granddaughter. Following the incident, Booth chased the child’s uncle down the street, naked and bloodied.
Booth was arrested on Friday in Royal Oak, a suburb of Detroit, after police responded to the chaotic scene. Preliminary accounts suggest she may have been experiencing a “manic” episode, possibly linked to drug use.
The ordeal began when Ong’s family became concerned after Booth stopped replying to messages from the child’s parents, who live out of town. They asked Ong to check in on the situation. When Ong also became unresponsive, the child’s mother directed her brother-in-law to investigate. He found Booth covered in blood, and Ong’s body in the basement, exhibiting a head wound near the child.
According to police, Booth seemed unstable and lunged at her brother-in-law. After fending off several attempts to attack, he managed to grab his niece and escape.
The nanny pursued them, wielding a screwdriver and shouting. “She was actually chasing him down the street as he was screaming for help,” noted Royal Oak Police Chief Michael Moore, adding that local residents witnessed the chaos and helped him and the child to safety.
Upon officers’ arrival, Booth was still in the area and allegedly stripped off her clothes in an attempt to flee. Following her quick apprehension, police reportedly discovered psychedelic mushrooms and marijuana in her belongings, although it remains unclear if she was under the influence at the time.
In a disturbing confession made in the police car, Booth allegedly stated, “I messed him up. And yes, I did it. God, it was too easy.” She had been babysitting for the family for over two years and had no prior criminal record.
The loss of David Ong is deeply felt, with his family expressing their grief on social media. His daughter described him as a “gentle giant” filled with kindness, love, and faith, emphasizing that his presence will be immensely missed.
Booth now faces serious charges, including first-degree murder and second-degree child abuse, and has been held without bond due to the violent nature of the crime occurring in the child’s presence. Both the child and the uncle suffered minor injuries during the ordeal.
