A new grandfather was killed Saturday at a Kentucky gun store when another customer accidentally fired a gun at the store, police said.
The tragedy occurred around 8:30 p.m. at Humphrey Double H Farms Enterprises in Carrollton, where an unidentified shopper was looking at a firearm and “began manipulating it,” police said. State police announced this on Monday.
One shot was fired, hitting 50-year-old Chad Wainscott, who was inside the store.
Police said other patrons rushed to Wainscott’s aid until emergency responders arrived, but he died from his injuries at a local hospital.
“Chad had a kind heart. He never ended a conversation with goodbye and always said see you later! A beautiful soul in every respect,” one mourner said. wrote in his obituary.
No suspects have been named in the shooting, and the National Guard said the shooter is assisting investigators.
Close friends said Wainscott, who was nicknamed “Little Chigger” after his grandfather, had recently become a grandfather to beloved baby Lance.
Wainscott had worked as a farm hand with his father for the past several years and was well known in the community for his love of outdoor activities.
“His love of the outdoors was a defining characteristic of his life and his hobbies included hunting, collecting guns, hats and knives, searching for four-leaf clovers and capturing the beauty of sunsets and cows. Chad was known to be happiest when outdoors,” his grieving family said.
“Chad’s warm smile and infectious personality will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.”
