A retired Chicago woman shot and killed her grandson’s mother in an upscale New York City neighborhood just steps from the mayor’s home during a custody battle over a 4-year-old boy, city police said Friday, then killed herself with her 1-year-old child in a car seat nearby.

The New York Police Department said Friday morning that Marisa Galloway, 46, was shot in the head and back on a Manhattan street by 66-year-old Kathleen Lee, the grandmother of Galloway’s 4-year-old child.

“The video shows Mr. Galloway placing his child in the back seat of his car, then as he is placing the stroller in the trunk, Mr. Lee approaches and shoots Mr. Galloway in the head, and then as Galloway falls to the ground, he shoots him in the back,” NYPD Chief Joseph Kenney told reporters.

The victim of a shocking murder-suicide on New York City’s Upper East Side has been identified as a former track and field coach and teacher at nearby Fordham University who graduated from the school in 2001.

Police found two handguns at the scene, less than a block from Gracie Mansion, where Mayor Eric Adams lives. Lee dropped one of the guns after pulling the trigger, and police recovered another gun from a tote bag.

A one-year-old baby was also found alive in the back seat of a nearby car.

Authorities said that moments after Galloway placed the child in a car seat, Lee was seen on surveillance video approaching and opening fire before shooting himself.

Police said at a morning press conference that Galloway and the killer had a history of domestic disputes that likely stemmed from a custody arrangement for a 4-year-old child.

She filed five reports and two complaints with the NYPD, but none of them resulted in an arrest.

Lee’s son, Kenny Lee, is the father of a 4-year-old boy.

Police said Lee is a former probation officer from Chicago who lived on North Park Avenue in the city before moving to New York three years ago.

Police arrived to find two women with gunshot wounds to the head.

Paramedics rushed Galloway to hospital, but she died from her injuries.

Galloway is a former college athlete who returned to his alma mater as a volunteer.

“The Fordham University community is deeply saddened by the tragic death of Marisa Galloway, a Fordham graduate who served as a volunteer track and field coach at Fordham for 17 years until 2019,” a university spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

Galloway earned a bachelor of arts degree from Fordham University’s Rose Hill campus in 2001 and a master of science degree from Fordham’s Graduate School of Education four years later, the school said.

“While at Fordham, she was the Rams’ high jumper and also participated on the sprint and relay teams. In 2001, she concluded her senior season by placing third in the high jump at the Metropolitan Championships,” the statement continued. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Marissa and her loved ones.”
