*** GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING *** Hundreds of Hezbollah Members Wounded When Pagers Explode

On Tuesday, simultaneous pager explosions believed to have been hacked injured hundreds of people believed to be members of the Iran-backed terrorist group Hezbollah in Beirut and across Lebanon.

Reuters Reported:

Hundreds of people, including Lebanese militant group Hezbollah fighters and medical workers, were seriously injured on Tuesday when a pager they were using for communication exploded, a security source told Reuters.

A Hezbollah official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the pager explosion was the group's “biggest security breach” in the nearly year-long war with Israel.

A Reuters reporter saw ambulances racing through Beirut's southern outskirts as panic spread, and residents said explosions were still continuing 30 minutes after the initial blast.

The pager explosion likely injured the person wearing the pager, but not necessarily other people nearby.

The surprise attack came just hours after Israel declared the safe return of residents to northern cities to be one of the four basic objectives of the war, meaning it was preparing to launch a war in Lebanon.

In addition to injuring or killing Hezbollah fighters, the attacks also threaten to disrupt Hezbollah communications, forcing them to abandon pagers and use other systems that are less efficient and more vulnerable to hacking.
