Graves Gilbert Clinic Ends Partnership with Humana
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A significant health care provider in south central Kentucky is terminating its agreement with an insurance company. Starting February 1, 2026, Graves Gilbert Clinic and its parent organization, GGC Health, will stop participating in Humana’s insurance programs, which include both Humana Medicaid and Medicare Advantage plans.
This decision follows several months of negotiations aimed at addressing contractual and policy issues that GGC leaders believe hinder patient access to care and create unnecessary administrative obstacles.
“It is unfortunate that Humana is at this stage,” stated GGC Health CEO Michael Deramo. “Despite our efforts to find common ground, Humana continues to fall short in meeting our needs, and, more importantly, the needs of patients and families in south central Kentucky.”
Patients enrolled in Humana Medicaid or Medicare Advantage plans will be able to continue seeing their GGC provider until January 31, 2026.
As the main provider of outpatient services for Medicaid and Medicare patients in the area, GGC Health caters to tens of thousands who depend on government-sponsored insurance programs. Over two-thirds of GGC’s patients are covered by Medicaid or Medicare plans.
“Humana has been an inadequate partner,” remarked GGC Health Chairman Dr. Summer Karakish. “They have relied on Graves Gilbert to support the growth of the Medicaid and Medicare Advantage populations while implementing policies that complicate patient care.”
In response, Humana issued a statement expressing commitment to the health and well-being of its members, emphasizing the importance of partnerships with healthcare providers. They indicated openness to ongoing discussions to potentially renew their agreement with Graves Gilbert Clinic, focusing on affordability and quality of care.
“We understand that news about potential changes can be concerning,” Humana noted. “Our priority is to keep our members informed and supported throughout this process. If we cannot reach an agreement, we will provide guidance to ensure our members receive the necessary care.”
For any inquiries regarding how this change may impact their coverage, patients are encouraged to reach out to their local private insurance agents or trusted partners.
