The head of Great American Media said the company’s two major platforms have a “mission” to promote faith, family and country, and the upcoming Easter show is an example of that.
Great American Media is home to Great American Family, a legacy channel available on major providers, and Great American Pure Flix, a streaming service launched last year after a merger with Pure Flix.
Bill Abbott, CEO of Great American Media, says faith is an important factor in the company’s success.
“We just have a relentless focus on positivity and uplift, faith, family and country,” Abbott told Christian Headlines. “If he makes 20 Christmas movies, those 20 Christmas movies are going to have one of those elements and focus on that area, and we never deviate from that.
“From a reliability standpoint, we are 100 percent focused and relentless on being a trusted destination for families to feel safe and seen.”
The goal, he said, is to promote content to families that “reinforces values.”
Mr. Abbott helped launch Great American Family in 2021 after serving as president and CEO of Crown Media Family Networks, the parent company of Hallmark Channel. Prior to that, he worked at Fox Family Worldwide and Family Channel.
Too often, he says, mainstream networks downplay faith.
“In the mainstream world, faith is all too often denigrated and portrayed negatively in a variety of ways,” Abbott said. “I say “mainstream,” [but] I think we’re more mainstream than mainstream. ”
He said mainstream content is often “anti-American” and supports “rebuilding families.”
Meanwhile, the Great American Media channel will include several Easter-themed shows this year. easter historyThe production, presented by the Museum of the Bible, will air on Great American Family on March 29 on 5 Eastern. Passion playThe program, presented by Shepherd Church, will be broadcast on the same day at 3:45 ET.
The same week, The Great American Family debuts just in time, a faith-centered film executive produced by Candace Cameron Bure. Starring Laura Osnes, it will air on March 26th on 8 East.
Great American Media recently announced the launch of a mystery series similar to the one Bure made popular on Hallmark. Bure stars in her first production, The Ainsley McGregor Mystery: The Winemaker Affair. The release date has not been determined.
Mr. Abbott said “Great American Family” and “Great American Pure Flix” fill a niche market.
“Entertainment that’s family-friendly, has faith elements, that you can watch with your kids and feel safe 24/7 is really important,” he said. “That’s really the mission for us.”
