In part of an interview aired on the Fox News channel's “Ingraham Angle” broadcast on Thursday, Vice President JD Vance said that if the Democratic administration is concerned that the Trump administration is using the same clauses that use Mahmoud Khalil, if you're dressed in green, then you're in the United States of America,” and “This isn't basically about freedom of speech… It's about national security, but more importantly, we, as the American masses, are also important when it comes to deciding to join our national community. And if the Secretary of State and the President decide that this person should not be in America and that they don't have the legal right to stay here, that's just as easy.”
Host Laura Ingraham said, “There is controversy over the decision to deport former Colombian student Mahmoud Halil about national security concerns determined to exist by Marco Rubio. Are you worried that future Democratic administrations will use the same regulations to deport conservative students studying here in America?”
Vance said, “Well, if it were American citizens, that would be a different conversation. Of course, if Democrats tried to do that to American citizens, that would be a problem. But Laura, the green card holder, doesn't have the indefinite right to be in the United States, even if she likes green card holders, right? American citizens have different rights to be in the United States of America, right? So my attitude towards this is that this is not basically about freedom of speech. And for me, yes, it's about national security, but also, more importantly, who decides to join our citizens' community as the American masses. And if the Secretary of State and the President decide that this person should not be in America and that they don't have the legal right to stay here, that's just as easy.”
Vance also said, “I think we certainly see people who are deported on student visas if we decide we don't. I don't think it's in the US's greatest interest to have them in our country.”
