Greene to reporter: 'You're the cause of President Trump almost being assassinated'

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) blasted a news reporter at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this week, accusing him of contributing to the country’s political division and the assassination attempt on former President Trump.

green, interview Appearing on The Times of London radio on Tuesday, John McCain was discussing his support for President Trump’s newly announced vice presidential nominee, Senator J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), when reporter Joe Crawford asked him about Vance’s suggestion that the UK might become the first “truly Islamist” country to acquire nuclear weapons, following the Labour Party’s landslide victory in the recent general election.

“Doesn’t that reflect poorly on our relationship with the UK?” Crawford asked Green, before she shifted the conversation to accuse Democrats of “demonising” Trump and other Republicans.

“Let’s talk about what Democrats are saying,” Greene said, “to demonize him. [Trump] So much so that it was unimaginable that a 20-year-old actually climbed onto the roof and tried to kill President Trump.”

When Crawford tried to interject, Green said, “Let’s talk about people like you who demonize people like me.” [and] “President Trump.”

The Georgia Republican then claimed he was facing a huge number of death threats due to allegedly misleading news reports.

“Shame on you. You are the problem,” Greene said, adding: “You’re an idiot. And you’re a problem for our country. You’re lying about people like me. This is the first time you’ve ever spoken to me.”

“Your job is to be a news organization. You should report the news, not lie,” she added.

When Crawford attempted to continue her questioning, Greene said, “I don’t have the right to ask any more questions. I’m sick of you because you’re the reason our country is divided. You’re the reason President Trump was almost assassinated. You’re the root of everything that’s wrong with America.”

The Hill has reached out to The Times of London for comment.

The comments came just days after a shooting at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, that left the former president injured, one spectator dead, and two other attendees injured.

Immediately after the shooting, In the crowd “This is your fault!” he shouted at reporters.

The gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot dead by authorities moments after opening fire on the former president from a nearby rooftop.

Questions remain about Crooks’ motives.

Since then, Trump and his allies have called for unity, and President Biden, in a primetime address on Sunday night, urged the nation to ease political tensions.
