Greta Thunberg, a young environmental activist who continues to make inroads in other areas of left-wing politics, was arrested at the University of Copenhagen during a Palestinian demonstration.
Around 20 people blocked the University of Copenhagen on Wednesday morning, and six people were arrested when police cleared the campus, including climate activist Greta Thunberg, who was photographed being handcuffed and led away to a police vehicle wearing her distinctive kefir scarf.
Copenhagen police said they had “arrested six protesters” who had temporarily blocked the entrance to one of the University of Copenhagen's buildings. Six were charged with domestic disturbance and three with domestic violence, according to reports. Reported Danish Newspapers Berlingghe He was also charged with trespassing.
In addition to the entrance to the university building being blocked, a small group of people, possibly three people charged with trespassing, reportedly briefly barricaded themselves inside a room.
The university vice-chancellor said that disciplinary action would be taken against the disturbing students.
The action was led by “Students Against the Occupation,” who are pressuring the university to do “the only right thing” and launch an academic boycott of Israel and stop cooperation with Israeli universities and scholars.
Wednesday's attempted siege in Copenhagen was not Thunberg's first time appearing at a pro-Palestinian event, nor her first time being arrested: Earlier this year, she made a surprise appearance at a rally in Leipzig, Germany, that drew headlines after a journalist hired by a local television station to cover the event was assaulted.
