Eric Dane Passes Away at 53
Actor Eric Dane, known for his roles in “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Euphoria,” died on February 19 at the age of 53.
His family shared that his passing followed a brave fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). In a statement released to media, they expressed their sorrow, saying, “It is with heavy hearts that we share that Eric Dane passed away on Thursday afternoon after a courageous battle with ALS. He spent his final days surrounded by his beloved friends, devoted wife, and two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia. They were the center of his world.”
The family also acknowledged Dane’s dedication to raising awareness about ALS. “Through his battle with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same struggle,” they noted. “He will be greatly missed and will always be remembered with fondness.”
Dane publicly revealed his ALS diagnosis in April 2025, reporting frustration with the lengthy process it took to receive an accurate diagnosis. ALS, often known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, impacts nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, which ultimately leads to loss of muscle control.
Prior to his death, he documented his struggles on social media. In an interview with “Good Morning America,” he shared how he lost strength, noting that by June 2025, he could only move one arm.
Despite facing significant health challenges, Dane continued to work, managing to film Season 3 of “Euphoria.” His notable credits include playing Dr. Mark Sloan, or Dr. McSteamy, in “Grey’s Anatomy,” along with appearances in “Charmed,” “The Last Ship,” “Marley & Me,” “Valentine’s Day,” and “Burlesque.”
The family expressed gratitude for the love and support from fans, while requesting privacy as they navigate this difficult time.
