Husband Indicted on Murder Charges After Wedding Shooting

This week in Georgia, a husband faces murder charges for allegedly shooting his new wife’s stepfather during their wedding, but he insists he acted in self-defense.

Kairag and Aaron White tied the knot in July 2024 in Butts County. While the ceremony went smoothly, trouble arose at the reception when Kairag’s stepfather, Jason Moon, 44, wandered off into the woods.

Earlier that day, Kairag had addressed some unruly guests about their inappropriate behavior. When they didn’t respond to her requests to leave, Aaron stepped in. Moon then joined the fray and reportedly punched Aaron.

Following this confrontation, both men ended up deeper in the woods, and according to a Butts County Sheriff named Gary Long, Moon drew a gun and fired at Aaron. In response, Aaron retreated to his truck, retrieved his firearm, and the violence escalated.

Moon was later discovered in the woods with seven gunshot wounds, while Aaron sustained a gunshot wound to his hand. Aaron claims that Moon had been threatening him, stating he fired out of fear for his life.

“I don’t think anyone should hesitate to protect themselves,” he remarked.

Despite the turmoil of that day, Kairag remains supportive of her marriage, viewing Aaron as her “best friend,” even with the tragic events unfolding on their wedding day.

Previously, a grand jury had ruled in favor of Aaron, stating he acted in self-defense, but District Attorney Jonathan Adams decided to present the case again. Consequently, a second grand jury indicted him on felony murder charges.

Long believes that Adams’ office is overreaching and feels Aaron shouldn’t face criminal charges. Meanwhile, Aaron’s lawyer, Brett Dunn, claims Adams is politicizing the situation for personal ambition.

In fact, Adams is currently campaigning for a judge position, and he dismissed Dunn’s allegations, suggesting that the only one looking for political gain is Dunn himself, who is vying for a Senate seat.

Aaron’s bail has been set at $100,000, and both the Butts County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation continue to look into the incident.
