Rockstar Games Bans “Charlie Kirk” After Controversial Missions

Rockstar Games, known for creating the Grand Theft Auto series, has added “Charlie Kirk” to its list of terms that are prohibited within user-generated content. This decision comes after players crafted missions that depicted Kirk’s assassination.

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot during an event on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University. The recent updates in GTA Online introduced a Mission Creator tool, which lets players build and share missions. However, some users allegedly misused this feature to recreate scenarios relating to Kirk’s murder.

Reports from both Variety Media and gaming sources indicate that certain in-game missions featured titles like “We are Charlie Kirk,” but these have now been taken down. One particular mission involved players using sniper rifles set on rooftops, aimed at a character resembling Kirk, who appeared under a tent in a setting reminiscent of the actual event.

In response to these incidents, Rockstar is working to include “Charlie Kirk” in a profanity filter within the game’s coding. Some players have tried to bypass this restriction by adopting variations like “Charlie Pink” to continue creating related content.

Meanwhile, discussions around Kirk’s assassination have stirred mixed reactions online. After his killing, several individuals on the left criticized or even commended the event on social media, resulting in disciplinary actions in some cases. Notably, a professor at Clemson University was dismissed for a post that labeled the incident as “karma,” yet has since reached a settlement with the institution. Similarly, Austin Peay State University settled with a professor fired for his comments regarding firearms after Kirk’s death.

Rockstar Games hasn’t yet responded to inquiries for further comments. The company is looking to redefine its content filter to clearly identify real-life events it wishes to exclude from the gaming experience.
