White Sox Fall Short Against Guardians in ALDS Game 4
In a postseason that has already seen three of the four league championship series spots clinched, the Chicago White Sox faced off against the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday night, marking the only game on the MLB’s playoff schedule. This matchup presented Chicago with a chance to end its lengthy absence from the American League Championship Series.
Unfortunately for the White Sox, they lost 9-5 in Game 4. A win would have secured their first ALCS appearance in over twenty years, the last being in 2005.
The Guardians capitalized on two home runs in the fifth inning, marking their second consecutive victory in the series and setting up a decisive Game 5 on Saturday.
Chicago started strong, taking a 1-0 lead and then extending it to 2-0 with a sacrifice fly by Sam Antonacci in the third inning. However, Cleveland quickly responded with home runs from Patrick Bailey and José Ramírez in the fifth.
In the bottom half of that inning, the White Sox retaliated. After Antonacci was hit by a pitch, they managed to tie the game at 3-3 before taking a 4-3 lead with another sacrifice fly, this time from outfielder Brenton Doyle.
However, that would be the last time Chicago held the lead in the game. A solo home run from Miguel Vargas in the ninth gave the White Sox a glimmer of hope as they put two runners on base, but ultimately, they couldn’t complete the rally.
As for the next game, it will take place back in Cleveland, set to start at 8 p.m. ET.
