Update on National Guardsmen Shooting Incident
National Guard soldiers, critically injured in a shooting last week in Washington, D.C., are being described as “miracles” for their recovery efforts, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi during a segment on “Fox & Friends” Friday.
Air Force Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolf, 24, remains hospitalized following injuries sustained in the incident that occurred on November 26, nearby the White House. Tragically, another National Guardsman, Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed during the event.
Bondi expressed her hopes for Wolf’s recovery, stating, “Please continue to pray for Andy. I met Andy and his family. His mother, Melody, and his father, Jason, are by his side, along with his sister, brother, and 8-month-old niece.” She added how his mother has remained optimistic, saying from the outset that “He’s going to live. He’s going to be 100 percent.” Bondi shared a poignant moment, noting, “I was there when the doctors reviewed his case; thankfully, he has no blood clots. He truly is a miracle.”
Investigation Underway for Possible Links to Extremist Group
Bondi detailed that Wolf faced “serious injuries” and mentioned the long road ahead of him for recovery. The suspect in this shooting, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Rakanwar, an Afghan national, is charged with first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to murder. The Justice Department plans to seek the death penalty against Rakanwar.
On a related note, Bondi made comments regarding immigration, stating, “This individual represents a failure in vetting, reminiscent of policies from the previous administration. Under Trump, we will ensure these issues are addressed.” It’s, well, a controversial stance that has sparked various discussions.
Memorial and Public Reaction
Vigils are being held, with a notable one in Webster Springs, West Virginia, to honor Spc. Sarah Beckstrom. Meanwhile, President Trump recently called Wolf a “young man fighting for his life,” shedding light on the broader implications of these tragic events.
