Guatemalan undocumented immigrant found guilty in shooting of Tennessee officer

Traffic Stop Leads to Shooting Incident in Tennessee

A routine traffic stop in Tennessee escalated into a deadly confrontation when illegal immigrants engaged in gunfire with state highway patrol officers. On January 12, 31-year-old Eugenio Abraham Solis Klarks was found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to 18 years in prison without parole, as announced by the Knox County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday.

The shooting incident unfolded when officers pulled over Solis-Klarks after he was observed speeding at 97 mph on Interstate 75 in Lenoir around 6:30 PM. Initially, he handed over a Guatemalan consulate identification card, but as officers called for backup, he fled the scene. The pursuit led officers into Knox County, where Solis-Klarks made a sudden maneuver to take an exit ramp.

As the officers pursued him, he lost control of his vehicle. According to reports, he then retrieved an assault rifle from his car and fired at Trooper Paul Dubroc, who was on the scene. Gunfire exchanged briefly, but authorities managed to detain Solis-Klarks after he suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident.

Interestingly, Solis-Klarks isn’t the only one involved. An individual named Abrego Garcia, also undocumented, has pleaded not guilty. The court has yet to determine pretrial custody for him.

This situation illustrates a broader trend in Tennessee, where the state has witnessed rising crime attributed to illegal immigration. Recent legislation mandates that local law enforcement must comply with requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). There have been increased requests for detainees in Nashville, suggesting a growing focus on enforcement.

Whether the ICE will pursue deportation for Solis-Klarks remains uncertain, and inquiries have been made for further clarification. Overall, this incident has sparked mixed reactions, showcasing the complex issues surrounding immigration and law enforcement in the state.
