A former official from the Biden White House shared insights with Fox News host Harris Faulkner on Monday, indicating that Democrats struggle to communicate effectively with mainstream voters.
Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett mentioned in a video that donors are backing “the safest white boy” for the upcoming 2028 presidential election. When Crockett described him as “never offensive,” Faulkner turned to Meghan Hayes, another former Biden administration member, to discuss the situation further.
Hayes agreed that Democrats have not effectively reached out to Central Americans, stating, “Most of the country is moderate and doesn’t identify with either MAGA Republicans or the very progressive left. They are in the middle.” She emphasized that if Democrats wish to compete in future elections, they need to connect with moderate Democrats and Republicans nationwide.
Additionally, David Hogg, vice-chairman of the Democrat National Committee, recently announced his fundraising efforts for the incumbent Democratic primary, which drew criticism from other party leaders. He later decided to contribute $100,000 to the Democratic Congressional Election Committee (DCCC). Faulkner questioned Hayes on why Democrats find it “heavy” to categorize people by race and gender.
Hayes countered, asserting that such a division is not the intention of the party, noting Vice President Harris’s identity as a Black woman in office. “I hear that and think she’s part of the Democrats. But I don’t believe that reflects the majority of the party,” she stated. “Democrats should focus on the economy and consistently address middle-class issues.”
Hayes also discussed challenges within the party, suggesting that left-wing figures like Minnesota’s Ilhan Omar might need to reassess their roles. “We need diverse opinions, but they must align with winning the 2026 and 2028 elections,” she added, referencing voter tendencies shown in the 2020 and 2024 elections.
