Gun dealer to testify in trial regarding Trump assassination attempt

The Justice Department is set to present a new roster of witnesses on Wednesday in the trial of Ryan Rouse, who faces charges of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a golf club in West Palm Beach in 2024.

Prosecutors mentioned their intention to call Ronnie Jay Oxendin, the alleged seller of the rifle used in the incident, along with several FBI agents and specialists. This includes Patrick M. Lantry, an officer from an FBI task force, and multiple special agents such as Aaron Thompson, Matthew S. Perry, Garrett L. Hu, and Laura E. Haller, who is a digital forensic examiner.

Additionally, witnesses Lazarus and Samuel Plata are scheduled to testify, supported by two translators fluent in Spanish and English in the courtroom.

On Tuesday, the testimony focused on forensic evidence related to Routh’s mobile devices and DNA analysis. The proceedings revealed WhatsApp messages and texts retrieved from Routh’s devices, including a notable communication in which Routh asked for assistance on what action to take.

The trial continues to examine further FBI insights related to the rifle dubbed “prepared.” FBI analysts testified about DNA traces linking Routh to items like rifle grips, bags, and gloves found in a makeshift sniper’s spot. Judge Eileen Cannon, appointed by Trump, maintained a tight rein on the proceedings, urging prosecutors to stay focused and reminding them to respect the defense’s presentations as well.

With prosecutors expected to wrap up their case by the week’s end, the upcoming testimonies could be key as they assess the government’s evidence against the defense’s narrative, which plans to introduce witnesses next week.
