Gunfire Disrupts Teen Gathering on Tybee Island
A group of teenagers on Tybee Island, Georgia, faced sudden panic when police reported a gunshot near the pier. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, as hundreds gathered at the popular Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion, a well-known spot in this relaxed beach community.
While an “unauthorized pop-up event” was taking place, a single gunshot was heard, causing the crowd to scatter quickly. Videos released by the Tybee Island Police Department captured the chaos, showing many teens fleeing the scene.
Some visitors who were close to the area described the situation as pretty chaotic. “There were about 15 girls outside. They came out for no reason and screamed at us,” said some eyewitnesses who preferred to remain anonymous. “It felt like a scene with a bunch of drunk girls just… wandering around.”
Detectives noted that after analyzing 911 calls and video footage, they suspect the shots may have originated from the beach below.
Police are currently looking for two individuals who were seen coming out from the dark under the pier at the end of the footage. They believe these individuals could provide important insights into the incident. “If you have any information about these people or if you are one of them, please reach out to Detective Sam Stuber at (912)786-5600 or sstuber@cityoftybee.gov,” the police encouraged.
Tybee Island is situated about 29 miles east of Savannah on Georgia’s Atlantic coast.
