Tragic Shooting at Brown University During Exams

A recent shooting at Brown University, an Ivy League institution in Rhode Island, occurred during finals week, resulting in the deaths of at least two individuals and leaving eight others injured.

In response, a curfew was enacted, and roads around the campus were closed as law enforcement searched for the male suspect involved.

Brown University’s President, Christina H. Paxson, expressed profound sorrow in a message to the campus. She noted, “Today is a deeply tragic day for Brown, our family, and our local community. There are no words that can express the deep sadness we feel for the victims of today’s shooting at the Barth and Hawley Engineering and Physics Building.”

She added that this event was one the community had hoped would never happen, expressing shock and gratitude for law enforcement’s prompt response. The message emphasized the importance of staying safe during this time.

Rhode Island Hospital remains on lockdown but continues to accept emergency patients.

President Trump commented on the incident, stating, “What a horror. It seems like all we can do right now is pray for the victims and those who were seriously injured.” He promised to provide updates as the situation developed.

Founded in 1764, Brown University is not only known for its academic excellence but also boasts an endowment of $8 billion, making it one of the wealthiest universities in the nation.

The recent shooting adds to a growing list of mass shootings on U.S. college campuses. One student sheltered in a building during the incident recounted his experience, mentioning that he and others barricaded themselves inside while waiting for help. “We were in a basement office with hundreds of others, calling 911 and trying to stay updated on each other’s safety,” he shared.

Earlier this week, another shooting at Kentucky State University left one student dead and another seriously injured, highlighting a troubling trend of violence on campuses this year.
