A sudden gust of wind caught a chairlift at an Italian ski resort in the Swiss Alps twisting and turning on video Thursday, with at least two people still on the chairs.
Onlookers recorded the horrifying incident on video at the Cervino Ski Paradise in Breuil-Cervinia, a popular tourist destination at the foot of the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps.
Skier Andy Crabtree, who shared the video, posted on social media that 10 lift chairs were damaged and would be unusable by the time the lifts reopened the next day.
Barnaby Dunning, an experienced skier who was trapped in the lift with a friend at the time, told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Monday that wind speeds reached 110 miles per hour. The skier said he felt like he was in a washing machine and he “experienced complete panic and fear many times.”

“I didn’t know it could even rotate like a chairlift rotates,” Dunning said. “You’re just being thrown around all over the place.”
