Gym’s New Policy for Young Women Stirs Controversy

A 36-year-old woman’s revelation about her gym’s new policy has sparked quite a debate. The gym has decided to prohibit workouts for those aged 24 and older during peak hours.

She posted about this on Mumsnet, a UK forum where she typically seeks advice on various women’s and parenting issues.

In a post titled “Is it unreasonable to think this is unfair?” she described receiving a message from the gym outlining the changes.

According to the text, the gym would now be “only for women from 4pm to 7pm” on weekdays.

The message explained that this update aimed to respond to feedback and provide young female members with a dedicated and comfortable space during busy hours after school and in the evenings.

Outside of these hours, the gym will remain accessible to all female members, the text noted.

The original poster mentioned that one of the main attractions of the gym had been the “women’s time” available from 9am to 7am on weekdays. She expressed her intention to cancel her membership over this policy.

Responses from commenters were overwhelmingly in support of her feelings; 93% voted that the gym’s decision was irrational.

One user remarked, “That’s absolutely ridiculous! Why are women of a certain age being excluded?” Another echoed this sentiment, pointing out the limitations imposed by the new policy.

While some commenters found the decision strange, others questioned whether the gym aimed to attract a younger crowd for marketing purposes.

Comments included queries about whether the policy implied that women over a certain age couldn’t exercise effectively alongside men. Others felt that the decision might not reflect the actual membership demographics.

Contrastingly, a few individuals supported the gym’s rationale, arguing that businesses have the right to implement such policies. One user suggested that it’s not unreasonable at all, emphasizing that young girls are at a higher risk of stopping their exercise routines. They argued that providing a safe and dedicated space for them aligns with the gym’s purpose.
