AI’s Influence on the STEM Job Market

On the latest episode of the “Alex Marlow Show,” host Alex Marlow, who also serves as Breitbart’s editor-in-chief, engaged in a discussion with John Carney, the Economics editor at Breitbart News. They delved into how artificial intelligence is reshaping the STEM field.

Marlow pointed out the uncertainty for high school students considering their college majors, thinking about what the job market might look like in, say, six to ten years down the line. It’s tricky; the demand for positions can fluctuate significantly. For instance, a lot of coding is currently being outsourced to countries like India and Malaysia.

He went on to mention that this shift is contributing to rising unemployment rates. Many jobs are filled by H-1B visa holders, which he considers a negative development. Even without that, the reality is that the need for certain roles is diminishing.

As a result, high unemployment figures are becoming more commonplace. People may need to pivot into different fields. It’s not easy to secure a degree in computer programming, and it’s unfortunate when individuals struggle to find their path, whether it’s in tech or other trades like welding.
