Hayley Baptiste Faces Injury Setback After Big Win

Just a few weeks after achieving a significant milestone as a professional caregiver, Haley Baptiste has encountered a major setback—an injury that might impact her entire 2026 season.

The American tennis player suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus during a match at the French Open on Wednesday, which will necessitate surgery, as reported by Jim Courier on TNT.

She’s anticipated to be out for a minimum of six months, which is quite a long time, considering everything.

Fellow American Sloane Stephens expressed her sympathies for Baptiste, who fell during the second round against opponent Wang Shiyu.

“It’s really shocking and heartbreaking,” she stated on TNT. “Honestly, I took my earphones off because I just couldn’t bear to hear it. It’s painful—not just for her, but especially now, when she’s at such a high point in her career. She just signed a deal with Nike, and everything seemed to be going her way.”

Stephens added, “When you see that video and hear her scream, it’s something you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy. Injuries are tough. They really are, particularly when you’re at the peak of your performance.”

The incident occurred when Baptiste landed awkwardly after a jump, resulting in injury to her left leg.

She fell to the court, immediately clutching her left leg. Her father, Kasim, rushed to her aid.

Ultimately, Baptiste was carried off the court in a wheelchair, having to retire from the match while trailing 5-4 in the first set.

Known as one of the rising stars in the sport, Baptiste had recently made headlines by defeating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka at the Madrid Open in late April.

Though she reached the semifinals there, she has yet to progress past the quarterfinals in a Grand Slam event—not an easy feat at all.
