Spare us the charade, will ya?
After Democratic bigs knifed Joe Biden in the back, wresting the candidacy from his stubborn, locked grip, they rushed to valorize him with effusive praise and glowing political obituaries.
They’ve called him a “patriot” and a “hero.” His Sunday letter bowing out of the presidential race was selfless and for the good of the country — said the very people who took him out behind the shed because the feeble 81-year-old president wouldn’t relinquish the reins himself.
Remember, just two weeks ago, a fatigued Biden got on national television and pledged that he was staying in the presidential race, unless God himself intervened.
“It depends on … on if the Lord Almighty comes down and tells me that, I might do that,” Biden told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos.
But it turns out that the trinity of Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer is more powerful — especially with the backing of the big-money donor class and Hollywood hotshots. A Biden family source told The Post how top Dems, in a calculated campaign to remove the president, threatened him with the 25th Amendment in a “palace coup.”
After doing the deed, they donned their Team Dem jerseys, put on smiles and honored their “dear” friend Joe. Good ol’ Joe.
Take, for example, former President Barack Obama’s fawning ode to Biden, which he posted on Medium.
“It’s a testament to Joe Biden’s love of country — and a historic example of a genuine public servant once again putting the interests of the American people ahead of his own that future generations of leaders will do well to follow.”
Pelosi tweeted, “President Joe Biden is a patriotic American who has always put our country first.”
Schumer praised: “Joe, today shows you are a true patriot and great American.”
Meanwhile, we all know that, behind closed doors, they were likely calling him four-letter words not suitable for a family newspaper.
The media followed suit. Van Jones cried on CNN and said Biden showed patriotism. And New York Times writer Ezra Klein called him “an actual hero.” The list goes on and on. It was undignified.
The only person who gave it to us straight was the Democratic senator from Pennsylvania, John Fetterman.
“Spare me the soaring accolades from people with their fingerprints on the blades in our president’s back,” he told reporter Selena Zito.
How refreshing.
But there are two inconvenient realities here. Biden was clearly bullied into submission by party leaders, given backroom wedgies until he said “Uncle.” He didn’t want to do this.
And our 46th president is no hero.
