John Cena Reflects on Hair Removal Journey and Career Transition
John Cena recently revealed that the feedback from WWE fans about his hair loss prompted him to consider hair restoration options, a decision he’s now grateful for.
In a conversation featured in People’s August Cover Story, the wrestling superstar, currently on a farewell tour ahead of his retirement in 2025, shared how hair transplants he underwent in November are positively influencing his acting career.
“The procedure involves moving your hair from one area to another, one strand at a time,” Cena, 48, explained. “If anyone judges me for it, I don’t think there’s any shame involved. This change has dramatically altered my life.”
Cena expressed gratitude to WWE fans for encouraging him to take this step. “They’re the reason for my optimism and passion,” he stated. “They wouldn’t let me ignore my hair loss; they pointed it out instead.”
Commenting on the fans’ reactions, he added, “I noticed signs like ‘Bald John Cena.’ They definitely motivated me to explore my options.” Cena now follows a meticulous regimen including red light therapy, minoxidil, and supplements to maintain his new look.
“Now, I have a daily routine with shampoos and conditioners, and I had my hair transplant last November,” he noted. “I kind of regret not doing this sooner. It turns out that seven or eight out of ten men experience thinning hair.”
When discussing his acting career, the “Peacemaker” star observed, “I can see how my hairstyle can open up more opportunities for roles.”
Recently, Cena lost the WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes at Summer Slam in East Rutherford, New Jersey, further marking the end of an era in his wrestling career.
“Age plays a role,” Cena admitted. “I’m not as fast or strong as I once was. I promised myself I’d stay in the ring as long as I could for the fans who look up to me.”
He reflected on how his priorities have shifted at this point in his life. “My health and commitment to my partner are top of mind,” he said. “I want to ensure that I can give my all in the ring, but also know when to step away.”
Cena married Shay Shariatzadeh, an engineer he met in a restaurant in Vancouver in 2019. “It’s important for me to remain curious and healthy. That applies physically and mentally,” he shared. “As long as I have love, health, and a desire to learn from life, I think things will work out.”
