Hakeem Jeffries is on the lookout for someone skilled in digital media.
The House Minority Leader is hiring a new digital manager to help bolster the online presence of Brooklyn lawmakers after a recent Instagram editing mishap.
On Tuesday, Jeffries’ office advertised for a “dynamic and highly skilled” digital manager with expertise in Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects.
The job description noted that digital managers are mainly responsible for transforming raw content into engaging video, audio, and visual materials for digital platforms. It also emphasized that the ideal candidate should have a solid grasp of the current digital media landscape.
Additionally, Jeffries’ team highlighted the need for new digital managers to possess “good judgment.”
A couple of weeks ago, a questionable editing decision led to a photo on Jeffries’ Instagram that showed a distorted image of a colleague.
At first glance, the 54-year-old appeared to be enjoying himself in sunglasses, but the bench he was sitting on looked oddly misshapen.
Quick to notice were internet sleuths who found other images on Jeffries’ social media that featured suspiciously warped backgrounds.
Even some progressives, like journalist Ken Klippenstein, joined in the critique. He commented on July 7, saying, “Hakeem Jeffries is a very charismatic black hole that distorts the fabric of space-time.”
A GOP operative also criticized Jeffries for the apparent inauthenticity of his images. Erin Maguire remarked, “Hakeem Jeffries is slimming herself in Photoshop, the most transparent we’ve seen from Democrats in years.”
This led to inquiries sent to a Jeffries spokesperson to clarify if the hiring of a digital manager was linked to the recent editing blunders.
“I think full-time editors need full-time editors to keep up with full-time embarrassment,” commented Mike Marinella, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, regarding the recruitment effort.
According to the job listing, digital managers will also be tasked with studying social media platforms, editing videos for Jeffries, and tracking engagement metrics to better connect with supporters online.
Candidates for the position are required to have at least three years of relevant experience.
