Hall of Famer Randy Moss Steps Away from ESPN to Battle Health Issues

Hall of Famer Randy Moss will take an “extended” break from his duties on ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown to battle an undisclosed illness, the network reported.

ESPN announced in a statement posted to X on Friday that the star analyst will miss “extended time to focus on personal health challenges.”

“(Moss) briefly addressed the issue at the beginning of his show on December 1st. For nearly a decade, Randy has been a valued member of the team, consistently improving Countdown with his insight and passion. He has the full support of ESPN and looks forward to returning when he is ready.”

On last week's Sunday episode of NFL Countdown, Moss announced at the beginning of the show that he was “battling something” but did not reveal the illness.

“I have some great doctors around me,” Moss explained. “I couldn't have missed the show and I wanted to be here with you guys and it's a great feeling. But if you guys see me wearing these Michigan turnover glasses that I'm wearing… And that’s not disrespectful,” Moss said Sunday. “I'm fighting something.”

Moss' ESPN co-hosts Mike Greenberg, Rex Ryan, Alex Smith and Teddy Brussi also wore glasses to show their support.

The former Minnesota Viking is the longest-serving member of ESPN's Sunday morning flagship show, joining the cast in 2016.
