Halle Berry Criticizes Governor Newsom Over Women’s Issues
Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry recently had some pointed remarks for California Governor Gavin Newsom as he gears up for a possible presidential run.
She expressed her lack of support for a Democrat following what she sees as a failure to address key women’s health issues, specifically mentioning a bill that aimed to ensure insurance coverage for menopause treatments.
Berry, who is now 60, recounted a previous confrontation with Newsom regarding the repeal of the Menopause Care Act. While he committed to revisiting the issue, she claims he hasn’t followed through.
“It’s really unsettling when someone makes promises and then nothing happens,” Berry remarked. “But he listened. If he has presidential aspirations, he needs to connect with women,” she cautioned. “Gavin, it’s time to pay attention.”
Last December, she openly criticized Newsom for not acting on the menopause bill, expressing concern over his perceived neglect of women’s healthcare.
Speaking to a media outlet, she stated that Newsom’s track record raises doubts about his viability as a presidential candidate, given how he has overlooked half the population—women—in his political decisions.
“He won’t be governor indefinitely, and perhaps he should reconsider his presidential ambitions, especially since he’s dismissed important issues concerning women,” Berry added.
The exchange between them escalated after she publicly challenged him. Although Newsom had thanked Berry and indicated a willingness to mend their relationship, she feels he has yet to take any substantive action.
Berry noted, “It’s been quite a while now, and I still haven’t heard back or seen any changes.”
