Halle Berry wants to celebrate entering menopause with “Siesta.”
On March 21, “Union” star, 58, officially enters menopause – defined as 12 months without a period – she revealed in the new podcast “The Tamsen Show” of former PIX11 anchor-turned menopause advocate Tamsen Fadal.
Berry takes this opportunity to touch on the occasion along with “Siesta.” This is a term we have used to describe celebrations for women entering the menopause.
“When you realize that a woman is in menopause, you know that you are in it for 365 days, and you are in it – it is their duty to give that woman a 'siesta' to celebrate her, just as we do all the other milestones in our lives,” Berry said.
Berry is the first guest on Fadal, a podcast that will be released on Wednesday.
The two women are said to have had a mutual love festival debating femininity and menopause journeys.
Berry, who is battling type 2 diabetes, revealed that she had controlled the disease and managed to get out of insulin and oral medication, so “I thought whatever it was, I would skip menopause,” she joked.
“Hey, if I eat right, exercise and prioritize health and happiness, I can do whatever I want,” she explained.
She added that her healthy lifestyle made her feel immune to the inevitable. “Whatever menopause is, I don't know much about it — but I'm sure I'm going to skip it. I'm on top of everything,” she said.
Fadal and Berry are one of several well-known women who are part of their mission to educate women on this topic. Fadal told Page 6 last year that entering menopause was a catalyst for leaving his job at PIX11 in New York, with TV News Biz, who became obsessed with young people 15 years later at the anchor desk.
“The awareness necessary to speak to this conversation led me to leave. [TV news]. It wasn't that I couldn't do my job anymore, but there was a bigger story to tell. I couldn't stop talking about it. I couldn't stop studying. I couldn't stop talking to women about it,” she said.
She later produced a documentary on the subject, “The (M)Factor Film,” and launched a podcast, writing a book titled “Menopause: Being in charge of your health, regaining your life, and making you feel even better than before.”
Berry received an advanced copy and described the book as “Menopause Bible” via Instagram.
“Even if you are 100% seen, you will no longer feel lonely. There is also a way to begin managing this new, glorious stage of life!” she wrote.
Happy Siesta!
