Halle Berry Responds to David Justice’s Comments About Their Marriage
Actress Halle Berry recently seemed to respond to remarks made by former baseball player David Justice regarding their past relationship. Justice and Berry were married in 1993, but their marriage ended in divorce over four years later, with Berry filing for divorce in April 1996, citing “incompatible differences.” Two weeks later, Justice also filed for divorce, which was finalized in June 1997.
On a recent episode of the “All Smoke” podcast, Justice suggested that Berry’s lack of traditional homemaking skills contributed to their marital problems. He stated, “She doesn’t cook, she doesn’t clean, she really doesn’t look like a mother,” while speaking with former NBA player Matt Burns.
Shortly after these comments, Berry shared a series of photos on social media featuring her and her current partner, musician Van Hunt. One of her captions appeared to be a response to Justice’s remarks, playfully referencing concepts of cooking and mothering.
During the podcast discussion, Justice recounted that Berry proposed to him after they had been dating for a few months. “I didn’t really have any negative attention until I decided to leave her in 1996,” he said, adding that his understanding of relationships was limited at the time.
He reflected on his expectations, stating, “The knowledge and wisdom about relationships was not vast,” and mentioned how he thought a wife should take on domestic roles. Justice remarked, “As a young man, she doesn’t cook, she doesn’t clean, she doesn’t look really like a mother, so she starts to have problems.”
Berry’s divorce from Justice was finalized in 1997. She later became a mother to two children from a different relationship and has another child with her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez.
Currently, Justice is married to businesswoman Rebecca Villarrobos, and together they have three children.
A representative for Berry has been contacted for her comments regarding these matters.
