Hamas and Allies Commemorate October 7 Attack
The militant group Hamas and its supporters marked the anniversary of the October 7, 2023, attack, referring to it as a “historic and honorable milestone” in the Palestinian struggle.
Hamas lauded its deadly assault on Israeli civilians, termed “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood,” as an “extraordinary military achievement in planning, execution, and strategic deception.” They articulated that the events of the past three years have revealed the true nature of Israeli occupation, describing it as having “Nazi tendencies” and being engaged in genocidal actions.
In their statement, they insisted that their people are defending themselves, their territory, and their rights, maintaining their right to resist occupation until a free and independent Palestinian state is established.
Hamas also celebrated those who orchestrated and executed the October 7 attack, recognizing them as “guiding beacons” for the Palestinian cause in their quest for liberation.
On a different note, they called for organizations like the International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice to take action against Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for alleged “war crimes” and “genocide.”
Meanwhile, Hezbollah, an Iran-backed group in Lebanon, praised the October 7 assault as a “courageous, distinctive, justified, and legitimate” operation that had a significant global impact. They characterized it as a strategic success, arguing that the devastation inflicted upon Palestinians by Israeli forces was overshadowed by the broader “political impact” of the attacks.
Hezbollah claimed that Israel and its allies, including the United States, have lost global support, while the narrative of the Al-Aqsa Flood has gained traction, evident from pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Western cities and universities.
They further posited that Israel’s inability to completely dismantle Hamas represents a strategic failure due to underestimating the resilience of the Palestinian people, who they believe are poised to see a surge in their resistance.
In Israeli political circles, parliament member Simcha Rothman, who heads the Knesset’s Constitution, Law, and Justice Committee, expressed hope that indictments against Palestinians involved in the October 7 incident could emerge in the early months of the coming year.
Rothman stated there is a strong public demand for swift justice for the approximately 300 Palestinian suspects currently detained. He noted that a special military tribunal was established in May to facilitate these trials, though many aspects, such as staffing and locations, are yet to be finalized.
“It is crucial for the state to ensure that such actions do not go unpunished out of respect for those who lost their lives,” he emphasized.
He added that the pursuit of justice, whether through military or legal channels, is significant for future generations and aims to counter the narratives propagated by Hamas and its allies, reminding the world of the reality of what transpired on October 7, 2023.
