President Trump lauded Edan Alexander’s grandmother on Monday, describing her as a “messenger for God,” just hours before the 21-year-old American’s release by the militant group Hamas.
Varda Ben Baluch, speaking to Ynet, expressed her gratitude for Trump’s dedication, stating, “He has put in all his efforts and is a sacred but good messenger, and he is blessed.” She also remarked, “Thank God for the government caring about him.”
“Thank God. I welcome him today. It’s the day he was reborn,” she added.
Edan Alexander, an Israeli-American from New Jersey, was expected to be released later Monday as part of a goodwill gesture toward the Trump administration, according to Hamas.
The soldier had been held since he was captured during a Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, while at a military base in southern Israel.
