President Biden’s predictions for a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel appear to be too naive to become reality, with multiple Hamas officials rejecting the current agreement.

Biden predicted on Monday, while licking an ice cream cone, that Hamas would accept a deal with Israel within days, but statements from Hamas officials give little hope of progress.

“Hopefully by the end of the week,” Biden said Monday, cone in hand. “My national security adviser says we’re getting closer. We’re getting closer. It’s not there yet. My hope is that by next Monday there will be a ceasefire. .”

Meanwhile, multiple Hamas officials suggested on Tuesday and Wednesday that no progress had been made in negotiations, according to the New York Times.

“We have no interest in getting involved in what has surfaced, because it does not meet our demands,” Hamas official Ahmad Abdelhadi said in an interview with a Lebanese broadcaster.

Even more concerning, Hamas spokesman Bassem Naim said the terrorist organization had not received “any new proposals” since the two parties met last week.

Hamas is not the only group warning Biden to put on the brakes. Qatar, which has played a key role throughout the negotiations, suggested on Tuesday that there is no deadline for a deal.

“Efforts are ongoing. All parties are meeting regularly,” Qatari Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Majid Al-Ansari told reporters, according to the NYT. “But at the moment we don’t have anything that would allow us to comment on that deadline, although we certainly would like that to be achieved as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, Israel is deep in the planning process for an anticipated invasion of Rafah, a town in Gaza on the border with Egypt, home to both the last remnants of Hamas and a major aid route.
