Hamas Says It Also Wants a Ceasefire as Lebanon Deal Takes Effect

Hamas, the Iranian-backed terrorist organization that started the ongoing war in the Middle East on October 7, 2023 and is still holding 101 Israelis hostage, announced a ceasefire on Wednesday after a deal in Lebanon came into force. He also said he wanted it.

Israel and Hezbollah, the Lebanese Iranian-backed terrorist organization that began firing on Israel on October 8 in solidarity with Hamas, reached an agreement that goes into effect Wednesday morning. Hezbollah has previously vowed not to sign a ceasefire agreement with Israel unless the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) withdraws from Gaza. However, after suffering losses as the IDF stepped up its fighting in September, Hezbollah decided to sign another agreement, leaving Hamas to face the IDF without help.

Hamas has indicated it is ready for a ceasefire Gaza Strip AFP news agency reported on Wednesday morning, citing Hamas officials, after Israel signed a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon.

“We have informed the Egyptian, Qatari and Turkish mediators that Hamas is ready for a serious agreement on a ceasefire and exchange of prisoners,” the official told AFP.

However, the official reportedly accused Israel of sabotaging the deal.

Hamas has rejected any agreement that would allow the Israel Defense Forces to continue fighting in Gaza. Last month, for example, the government rejected a deal to release hostages in exchange for free passage of remaining leaders from Gaza.
