Stabbing Attack in Hamburg Train Station
BERLIN – Police reported that over a dozen individuals hurt in a stabbing incident at a central train station in Hamburg, Germany, are in stable condition as of Saturday.
A 39-year-old woman from Germany was taken into custody at the scene on Friday without any resistance. Authorities believe she acted alone.
According to the Burger Abendblatt newspaper, two bystanders subdued the woman and were able to seize the knife from her.
Fire department spokesperson Philip Baumann stated that the attack resulted in injuries to 18 people, aged between 19 and 85. Among those hurt, three women aged 24, 52, and 85, along with a 24-year-old man, sustained serious injuries. Fortunately, police confirmed that all four are in stable condition as of Saturday.
There were no clear signs of political motive behind the attack, and investigators are looking into the possibility of the suspect’s mental health issues.
The woman is expected to appear before a judge on Saturday and will likely be placed in a mental health facility afterward.
The attack occurred on the platform between tracks 13 and 14 around 6 PM on Friday. This station, located in downtown Hamburg, serves as a key hub for local, regional, and long-distance trains.
It is important to note that carrying weapons, including knives, is prohibited in Hamburg’s train stations and public transport.
