A loaded handgun fired multiple shots inside a Virginia home after someone inadvertently stored the gun in the home's oven.

Fire crews were called to a house fire Thursday evening after a homeowner reported a furnace had exploded, according to the fire department.
When firefighters arrived at the home, they opened the oven and found the gun melted into the iron grate.
“It was determined that someone had turned on the oven with the gun still in it, causing the gun to heat up and fire five shots,” the Chesterfield Fire Department wrote.
Thankfully, no one was injured, but Chesterfield County Fire and EMS said “the situation could have turned out very differently.”
Photos of the charred handgun fused to the oven's interior grates show the barrel was pointed toward either the oven's glass door or back.
Another image showed the oven's window shattered into pieces.

Police did not say which way the gun was pointed when the shots were fired.
“When you put something in the oven, it's easy to forget it's there and when you turn it on it could cause a fire or worse,” the Chesterfield County Fire Department wrote.
“It's also important to store your firearms properly. Keep your firearms in a safe place, such as a gun safe.”
