Hannah Hidalgo isn’t just the No. 2 seed’s leading scorer notre dame fighting irish. The 5-foot-6 guard is one of the best freshmen in the country and is also emerging as one of March Madness’s biggest stars.
Hidalgo entered the Sweet 16 this year, averaging 22.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game. The Irish need her on the court as much as possible. However, during the second quarter of Notre Dame’s regional semifinal matchup against the No. 5 seed. oregonHidalgo had to return to the bench while the referee forced him to remove his nose ring.
Officials forced Hidalgo to sit during the second quarter while their nose ring was “removed.” In the end, Oregon State defeated Notre Dame 70-65. Watch the bizarre video here:
Hidalgo missed more than four minutes of game time while Notre Dame staff attempted to remove his nose ring.
Hannah Hidalgo was listed as playing 40 minutes in this game, but she didn’t play until the first 4:09 of the second quarter because of a stud in her nose. I can’t play with this. Notre Dame’s training staff can’t seem to get it out either. You can’t make up for it.

If this is such a big problem, why didn’t the referees notice and take action before the game? Forcing her to miss her precious time in the middle of a Sweet 16 game just seems so wrong.
Hidalgo struggled offensively in the second and third quarters after being forced out of the game.
Hannah Hidalgo hasn’t made a field goal since the first quarter (before her nose ring was removed).

Hidalgo is a really crafty scorer. She is poised to become one of the faces of women’s college basketball over the next three years.
This is something that Hannah Hidalgo has grown a lot over the course of the year. It’s about getting the most out of her screener.
She can dust anyone, but using the handle to screen defenders… allows you to space out more efficiently. pic.twitter.com/298rEjuUGLY
