Hannity USSS ‘pounced’ on Trump after gunshots fired near ex-president

Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity spoke with former President Trump on Sunday, shortly after the apparent assassination attempt in Florida, and shared the horrifying details of the second assassination attempt on President Trump in just two months.

Hannity, joined by hosts Eric Shawn and Arsel Neville as the news broke, told viewers he had just spoken with Trump and Miami real estate developer Steven Witkoff, who were on the fifth hole at Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach when shots rang out around 1:30 p.m.

“Within seconds, the Secret Service was on the president, covering him,” Hannity said. “We had snipers with tripods. They knew which way the shots were coming from. And they had visibility of where the shots were coming from,” Hannity said, adding that the Secret Service escorted the president to the clubhouse.

The shots were later determined to have been fired after a Secret Service agent saw the suspect with an AK-47, discarded it and fled in a black Nissan. The man, whose identity has not been released, was arrested a short time later.

Sunday's shooting came nearly two months after an assassination attempt that occurred just minutes after Trump began a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Hannity said Trump's main concern when he arrived at the clubhouse seemed to be making sure everyone was safe, and Trump joked that he regretted not being able to finish the hole he was on.

“We don't have a lot of details right now. I expect we'll have more information from the Secret Service in the coming days. I do know that at least 30 to 50 sheriff's deputies and West Palm Beach police were on the scene. They responded immediately,” Hannity said. “I happened to be driving through the area. I drove past Mar-a-Lago to see what was going on. There were an awful lot of cops there.”

The shooting happened about seven weeks before Election Day.
