Cooper first asked the vice president what he thought about Vance's 2021 “childless cat lady” comment.

The comments Cooper referenced come from Vance, who previously said he believes this country is “run by a bunch of childless Catwomen who are miserable with their lives and the choices they make.” The story revolves around the time when he said, It will also make the rest of the country miserable. ”

“I think it's a mean and mean spirit,” Harris replied. “And I think most Americans want leaders who understand that we don't measure our strength by who we defeat. The true measure of a leader's strength is by who you defeat. It depends on whether you want to increase it.”

During the podcast episode, Harris also addressed earlier comments by Sanders (R-Arkansas), in which she said:

Harris, who has two stepchildren with husband Doug Emhoff, was asked how she felt about Sanders' comments.

“I don't think she understands that there are a lot of women who don't want to be modest,” Harris replied. “The second thing is that there are a lot of women who have a lot of love in their lives, families in their lives, children in their lives, and I think it's really important for women to lift each other up. Alex, one of the things that I really enjoyed was where the discussion went and where it went. We have families by blood, and we have families by love. I have both, and I think that's a real blessing. And I have two beautiful children, Cole and Ella, who we call Momara. I have a family. My husband's ex-wife is my friend, you know.”

Harris went on to explain the dynamics of her “modern family” and how she considers her stepchildren to be her own children.

“And let me tell you, I'm the child of divorced parents,” Harris added. “And when I started dating my husband, Doug, I was very thoughtful and didn't want to get into a relationship with kids until I knew our relationship was going to be real,” and then walk away from that relationship. However, from my own experience, children form attachments and I want them to think seriously about this. So I was waiting to see my kids. And they are my children. And I love those kids to death. And families come in many forms. And I think we're all realizing more and more that this is not the 1950s anymore. Families come in many forms. And yet they are family. ”

Meanwhile, commentators expressed frustration that Harris appeared on the podcast at a time when the federal government's response to Hurricane Helen has been less than effective, and individuals in many isolated areas are still affected. are surviving with minimal aid and lack of resources. .

One commenter said, “Thousands of people are dying in North Carolina and this is what she's doing.”

“The people next door to me in North Carolina don't have electricity, they don't have water, they don't have roads, and our vice president is talking about this. It's so sad… It breaks my heart for our country. ” added another.
